Turkey diversifies national gas supplies

Turkish government to prolong LNG  supplies contracts with Algeria, and establish LNG gas supplies from the USA. The example of gas supplies' policy to guarantee energy independence also to the EU
Russian gas supplies are good, but diversification is fundamental to ensure the national energy independence.
On Monday 12/23 Turkey declared the intention to prolong LNG supplies contracts with Algeria.
As Reuters reported, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz sentenced that Turkey wants to extend the LNG supplies contract with Algeria to 6 bcm of gas import per year from the current 4,4 bcm.
In addition to Algeria, Turkish government is going to establish an agreement with the USA to import 6 bcm of US liquefied shale gas.
Turkey is the first European country which decided to bet on USA shale gas export.
Thanks to shale gas exploitation, Washington increased national gas production and undermined Russia, Iran, and Qatar position as the first world gas exporter states.
After the White House signed LNG export's contracts with India, South Korea and Singapore, the democratic Barack Obama Presidential Administration and the republican parliamentary minority, endorsed the start of shale LNG export to the EU to defeat Russian concurrence in the European gas market.
Turkey's need of gas supplies diversification is due to Ankara's dependence on Russian, Iranian and Azerbaijan gas supplies.
Russia delivers to Turkey 48 bcm of gas per year by the Blue Stream pipeline - which has been realized in Black Sea seabed from Russia to Turkey - and the Trans Balkan Pipeline - which has been built via Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.
Iran delivers to Turkey 10 bcm of gas per year, whereas Azerbaijan sends 6 bcm by the South Caspian Pipeline via Georgia.
Azerbaijani gas supplies to Turkey are fundamental for Europe's energy independence.
The Trans Anatolian Pipeline is planed in Turkey's lands to carry 30 bcm of Azerbaijani gas to the EU in order to decrease Europe's energy dependence on Russia's gas supplies, which cover the 40% of the EU total energy need.
Turkey's gas supplies diversification is a model for the EU to understand that diversification, and not the increase of Russia's gas supplies, is the solution to guarantee Europe's energy independence and EU member states national security.
