UKRAINE. VICEPRESIDENT PITTELLA IN FAVOR OF VISA SANCTIONS OVER RESPONSIBLE OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS
KYIV – The Vicepresident of the European Parliament Gianni Pittella in a press conference together of Yevhenia Tymoshenko -the daughter of the leader of the Ukrainian opposition Yulia Tymoshenko, who was entailed after a case of political prosecution- stressed that the spread of democracy and liberty in Ukraine must be a priority of the Italian rotating Presidency of the EU in 2015.
Vicepresident Pittella said the reclusion of Yulia Tymoshenko and the beaten of journalist Tetyana Chornovol are a fact that demonstrate how Ukraine is not a democratic country.
“I’m gonna endorse in the European Parliament the liberalization of Visa regime for Ukrainians, who are a European People for historical, cultural and social reasons” Vicepresidebt Pittella said.
Moreover, Vicepresident Pittella said also that visa sanctions are necessary for those Ukrainian authorities who are responsible for the lack of respect of democracy and human rights.
“Europe is a unique opportunity for Ukrainians: projects, education, job opportunities we are ready to offer Ukrainians by implementing the process of integration of Ukraine within Europe” Vicepresident Pittella said.
Vicepresident Pittella also promised to push the Italian Parliament to offer medical treatment for Yulia Tymoshenko, if Germany won’t host the leader of Ukrainian Opposition.
“I’m here to express Ukrainians and Tymoshenko the solidarity and the help by mine, the European Parliament, the Progressive Alliance of Socialist and Democrats in the European Parliament, and the Democratic Party of Italy, whose new Secretsry Matteo Renzi is quite disturbed by the situation in Ukraine” Vicepresident Pittella added.
