ITALY IS UNGOVERNABLE: GRILLO AND BERLUSCONI FORBID BERSANI TO WIN AND DEFEAT MONTI

The centre-left coalition obtains the majority of votes, but right wing forces and the Five Stars Movement gain consensus. A big defeat for former PM Mario Monti

Rationality and passion are two opposite feeling: as Italian polls have showed, Italy prefers the second one.

According to Italian parliamentary election's first results, the centre-left coalition -made by the Democratic Party, SEL left wing party and the centrist Democratic Centre- obtained the majority of votes without winning the competition.

The electoral law -named the 'pig law'- gusrantees the majority in the senate to the right wing coalition -composed by the PDL right wing party and the regionalist Northern League- led by the tycoon Silvio Berlusconi.

Berlusconi's coalition won in the most important Italian regions as Lombardy, Sicily, Campania, Apulia, Piemonte, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, where the law guarantees a surplus of seats in the senate.

Bersani's coalition won in traditionally left wing regions as Tuscany, Umbria, Emilia Romagna, Aosta Valley, Calabria and also in Latium and Sardinia.

The most important new is the score of the populistic Five Stars Movement, led by the comedian Beppe Grillo. The movement risked to won in Liguria region, and obtained around the  25% of votes in the total vote's count for the senate.

The centre-left coalition leads the general vote's count with the 29% of votes, whereas the right wing coalition placed second with the 28%.

A low result is the one of the centrist Civic Choice, led by former PM Mario Monti. Former Italian PM Civic Choice did not win in any region, and in the general vote's count is to obtain the 9%.

The same proportions seems to be kept in the Lower House, when probably the Five Stars Movement may overcome the right wing coalition and reach the centre-left coalition's score.

Polls results let Italy without a majority in the parliament which can form a government. Moreover, it shows that the Italians prefers to vote for emotional politicians and not for rational political proposals.

Berlusconi and Grillo are the Italian election's morally winners. Right wing coalition's leader promised the restitution of a tax on houses property introduced by Monti's government in order to decrease Italy's budget deficit.

Grillo endorsed a cancellation of all political elites, a law against corruption, and the exit of Italy from the Euro zone.

On the other hand, Bersani, as well as France's President Francois Hollande, proposed to increase public expenses, in order to strengthen the economical growth and facilitate new job places' creation.

Monti endorsed austerity measures in order to put in order Italy's budget following German chancellor Angela Merkel's politics.

The Italian parliament will also elect the new Head of State. A unstable majority in both the houses does not allow the parliament to choose the successor of Italian Republic's President Giorgio Napolitano, whose mandate expires in spring.
