The centre-left Civic Pact for Lombardy’s candidate to face the regionalist Northern League’s national secretary and a MEP supported by the incumbent Italian PM Mario Monti. The libertarian Pinardi and the populist Carcano take also part in the electoral challenge.
A free civic actionist, a regionalist politician ad a pro-European moderate MEP are the three main candidates in Lombardy Regional election.
On Thursday 1/10, the candidate of the centre-left coalition – named the Civic Pact for Lombardy – Umberto Ambrosoli presented his candidature based on principles as legality and change in the political class.
Ambrosoli, whose electoral slogan is “strong because free”, is supported by a coalition composed by the Democratic Party of Lombardy, left-wing SEL party, the Socialist Party, centre-left IDV party, the centrist Popular Centre for Lombardy, and the civic Umberto Ambrosoli’s List.
Less time after Ambrosoli candidature’s presentation, the regionalist Northern League’s national Secretary Roberto Maroni also presented his program as a candidate to the most important Italian region’s presidency.
Maroni, which is supported also by the right-wing PDL party and a civic list, proposes to keep in Lombardy the 75% of regional tax expenses, in order to develop the regional economy.
The third candidate in Lombardy’s regional election MEP and former Milan’s mayor Gabriele Albertini launched his electoral campaign on Wednesday 1/9.
Albertini, which is supported by centrist UDC party, right-wing FLI, a part of PDL supporters and a Civic List, declared he will synchronize Lombardian policy to the Economy Agenda of the Italian PM Mario Monti.
A notable fact is the decision taken by the incumbent Lombardy’s governor Roberto Formigoni to support Maroni instead of Albertini, the candidate the Lombardian governor strongly used to endorse as his successor after February 2013 Regional Election.
Other candidates to Lombardy regional election are the libertarian Carlo Maria Pinardi, who is supported by Do Stop the Decline’s list, and the populist Silvia Carcano, supported by the M5S movement.
According to last opinion-pools, Ambrosoli is leading the competition with a few gap on Maroni, whereas Albertini is to obtain around the 10%.
