PO CONVENTION. "TUSK RE-ELECTION AS CIVIC PLATFORM'S LEADER STRENGTHENS BOTH POLAND AND EU TIES WITH THE U.S." CAZZULANI (FILITALIA)
CRACOW 08-23-2013-Matteo Cazzulani, Filitalia International Cremona Chapter President, welcomed Polish PM Donald Tusk re-election as the Leader of the Civic Platform.
President Cazzulani, who used to study, work and live in Poland for several years, stressed that PM Tusk demonstrated to be a true European Leader while governing Poland during last 6 years, leading his country into a full integration in the European Union.
President Cazzulani also noticed that the decision taken by the main Polish party to elect its leader by a on-line primary election demonstrates how strong is democracy in Poland, and how Poland is important for the development of the EU.
"We need a strong Poland in the EU, in order to balance the political power of some pro-Russian EU member States that systematically oppose tighter relationship with the USA. I welcome Tusk's re-election as Civic Platform's leader also as a Christian-Democrat, who argues that Poland, the most active country in the world struggle against communism and Soviet dictatorship, must continue do give the whole world its positive example, without exceeding in any conservative revisionism as it made in past" President Cazzulani said.

THE MATTER
On Friday, August 23, Polish PM Donald Tusk defeated former Minister of Justice Jaroslaw Gowin in the internal election for the leadership of the Civic Platform.
PM Tusk was supported by centrist and liberal internal streams of the Party, whereas Gowin represented the most conservative internal stream of the Civic Platform.
Voting procedures were provided both on-line vote and by correspondence during a one month long period.
Tusk is the PM of Poland since 2007, when he replaced the conservative Government of Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Polish PM strengthened Poland's position inside the EU and was able to oppose the economical crisis.
The Civic Platform -PO- is a centrist Christian-Democratic Party that governs in coalition with rural PSL Party. Both PO and PSL are members of the European People's Party -EPP.
