UKRAINE. CHAIRMAN CAZZULANI SPOKE WITH MEP SASSOLI ABOUT TYMOSHENKO AND PRESS FREEDOM
CORTONA - Matteo Cazzulani, Chairman of Integration Committee of Filitalia International Italian District, on Saturday 9/28 spoke with MEP David Sassoli about political situation in Ukraine.
Chairman Cazzulani, who attended the national meeting of Democratic Area -an internal stream of center-left Democratic Party- as a non-filed initiative with his membership in Filitalia International, stressed the EU must sign with Ukraine the Deep and Comprehensive Association Agreement, in order to strengthen its position in world geopolitics.
Cazzulani also asked MEP Sassoli not to forget about the detention of the leader of the Ukrainian opposition Yulia Tymoshenko, who was recognized by the International Community as a victim of a political prosecution.
"With MEP Sassoli, who is a journalist as I am, I also raised the matter filed with the absence of press freedom in Ukraine. The situation is not easy: on the one hand, Ukraine integration in the EU is necessary for the strengthening of the EU, on the other hand, the EU can't integrate a country in which HR are not respected" Chairman Cazzulani said.
By his own, MEP Sassoli expressed deep attention toward Tymoshenko case and the support to Ukraine's signature of DCFTA with the EU, according to the position of the whole S&D group of the European Parliament.
