Saint Ambrose: Milan remembers the Holy Patron

 

Archbishop Scola celebrated the Holy Patron's Homely in front of the most important Milanese and Lombardian authorities. The remember of former "modern" Milan's Archbishop Carlo Maria Martini.

The most important Lombardy's town remembers the Holy Patron, who in the second century BC founded the biggest diocese in the world.

On Thursday 12/6 Milan's Archbishop Angelo Scola celebrated in Saint Ambrose Basilica the traditional Homely dedicated to Saint Ambrose: Milan's Patron, who 12/7 of 374 year was appointed as Milan's Archbishop.

During the homely, Archbishop Scola invited both the Church and the politicians to put the social dimension in the centre of their activity, in order to involve all the people in spiritual and political life, and give responses to all the questions posed nowadays by the modernity.

Moreover, Scola remembered the importance the figure of Saint Ambrose and the town of Milan - the Fatherland of Constantine's Edit in 313 - has for religious tolerance and the relationship between faith and politics.

Several politicians of different ideology attended Saint Ambrose's celebration.

Milan's left wing mayor Giuliano Pisapia, Technician Ministry of Culture Lorenzo Ornaghi,  Italian MEPs Christian democrat Patrizia Toia and moderate Gabriele Albertini, and Centre-left coalition's candidate as Lombardy Region governor Umberto Ambrosoli.

Saint Ambrose's ceremony has been attended also by centrist UDC party Enrico Marcora, and Democratic Party of Lombardy  Carlo Borghetti and Fabio Pizzul Lombardian regional councillors.

During a private conversation after the ceremony, Archbishop Angelo Scola invited the politicians to work for a modernization of political life.

Saint Ambrose's Homely is a traditional celebration of Milan's Ambrosian Church, which is characterized for a modern conception of the religion.

Main Ambrosian Church's historical Archbishop is cardinal Carlo Maria Martini.

Martini, who died recently, between 1979 and 2002 supported the  Church must open its horizons to the modern society, tolerating the use of condoms and endorsing divorcees' admission to the Holy Sacraments.

In addition to the modern vision of the religion, Milan's Ambrosian Church is important also because it's the biggest diocese in the world.

Ambrosian diocese in extended in the Provinces of Milan, Monza, in some countries of Como and Bergamo Provinces, and several urban centers of the Ticino Canton, in Switzerlad.
