Centre-left primary election: Bersani defeats Renzi

Democratic Party's secretary obtains the 60% of votes. Florence's young mayor recognizes the defeat.

The centre-left coalition named its official candidate for next April legislative election. On Sunday 12/2, Democratic Party's national secretary Pierluigi Bersani won centre-left coalition primary election with the 60% of votes.

The date, fixed after an exit-poll and the 18% of vote's count, has been confirmed by Bersani's main challenger, Florence's young major Matteo Renzi.

In a tweet, Renzi, a Christian democrat politician who run in primary election despite of Democratic Party's establishment, told he's happy for having tried to challenge in a electoral competition.

The affluence has decreased in comparison with the first turn. A week ago 2 thousand of people more went cast their ballot.

Bersani is now centre-left coalition's official candidate on next April legislative election.

Supported by powerful CGIL work union, Bersani, a former Ministry of the Economic Development, endorses the idea of a Democratic Party as a social democratic political force which is able to govern just in coalition with left wing SEL party, centrist API and UDC parties, and far left wing FDS parties' federation.

Matteo Renzi, who is a Democratic Party's member, supported a social liberalism orientation and a Democratic Party which is able to govern alone, without any alliance with other political forces.
