Estonia says no to Nordstream

Tallinn blocks Russian pipeline extension to the UK. Nordstream is a Russia's political project to increase EU energy dependence on Russia

A decision to block a project planed to enforce Russia's energy hegemony on Europe. On Thursday 12/6 Estonian government forbade Russia the construction of Nordstream pipeline in Estonia's national seabed.

The Government agreed with an advisement of the national Ministry of Foreign Affair, which underlines Nordstream pipeline endangers both Baltic Sea seabed ecology and Estonia's national security.

Nordstream is a Russia's political

project conceived to foster Europe's energy dependence on Moscow.

The pipeline delivers 55 bcm of natural gas from Russia directly to Germany via the Baltic Sea seabed, bypassing several EU countries as Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia.

The Kremlin also planed to extend Nordstream to England, in order to start directly supplying of Russian gas also the UK.

Tallinn's deny to Nordstream's extension in Estonian national seabed blokes Russias project towards the UK, and thwarts Moscow energy policy in Europe based on a "divide and govern" strategy.

Nordstream - which has been criticized by the European Commission because it increases EU gas dependence on Moscow - is politically supported by Russia, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Nordstream's shareholders are Russian national gas major Gazprom, German companies Wingas and E.On, French company EDF and Dutch company Gasunie.
