GAS: UK AND FINLAND TO SUPPORT NORDSTREAM RUSSIAN PIPELINE

Russian national major Gazprom declares the UK are interested in Nordstream prolongation. Finnish PM Jyrtky Katainen not to oppose to Russian pipeline's extension in Finland's national water

Industrial contracts and a political election made the UK and Finland interested in Nordstream pipeline. On wednesday 11/14, the Head of Russian national major Gazprom, Alexei Miller, declared the British concern BP in interested in the Nordstream after Russia planed to prolong the Pipeline to the UK.

As Reuters reported, BP could become a Nordstream shareholder after the sell of all the stakes in Russian third energetic company TNK-BP to russian national oil company Rosneft.

The UK did not yet commented Gazprom Head's declaration, but several UK politicians already expressed their support to the Nordstream. The Head of British Conservatives MEP, Martin Callanan, declared in an interview to Lombardi nel Mondo that London supports Nordstream prolong to the UK in order to diversify Great Britain's gas supplies.

On the one hand, Russian gas supplies will help the UK to reduce the dependence on national, Dutch and Norwegian gas supplies, but on the other hand, as Callanan recognized, the Nordstream is a project which did not help Europe to decrease the dependence on Russian gas supplies.

A national motivation moved also Finnish PM Jyrky Katainen to endorse the Nordstream extension in Finland's national water on wednesday 11/14, during an official meeting with Russian PM Dmitriy Medvedev.

Katainem, a leader of a Grosse Koalition, is facing a presidential election in which his moderate National Coalition Party have to prevent the growth of consensus of the far right True Finnish movement.

Probably, Katainen officially endorsed the Nordstream in order to present himself as a PM active in foreign policy, even if the Russian pipeline thwarts the European energetic security.

The Nordstream is a 1220 km length pipeline conceived by the Kremlim to carry 55 bcd of russian gas per year from Russia directly to Germany via Baltic Sea seabed, bypassing several EU Countries as Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia.

Russia planed a Nordstream prolongation to the UK and an extension of the pipeline, although the Nordstream since 2012 is delivering just a 30% of its total capacity.

Nordstream shareholders are russian national major Gazprom for a 51%, German companies Wintershall and E.On respectively for a 15,5%, French company Suez Gas de France, and Dutch Gasunie respectively for a 9% .

Nordstream is politically supported by Russia, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The European Commission criticized the pipeline because it increase Russia gas supplies to Europe and divides the European Union.
