Money from China instead of the gas from Russia is the solution Ukraine is going to bring to decrease Kyiv energy dependence on Russia.

On Tuesday 12/11, Ukrainian National concern Naftohaz obtained a 3 Billion of USD credit from China Development Corporation bank for coal exploitation modern techniques' realization.

The Ukrainian and Chinese governments signed also an agreement for the realization of common energy measures in coal, gas and oil fields.

Ukraine is trying to decrease the dependence on Russia's gas supplies. After Russia's national gas major Gazprom did not give to Ukraine a gas supplies discount, Kyiv decided to decrease Russian gas import to 27 bcm.

Moreover, Ukraine increased the use of coal and oil, as well as Naftohaz signed a trimestral agreement with German company RWE to carry Russian natural gas to Ukraine from Germany via Poland and Hungary.

In addition to these measures, Ukrainian government also started the realization of a LNG terminal in Odessa to import in Ukraine liquefied gas from Qatar, Algeria, Libya and Azerbaijan in partnership with Spanish company Natural Gas Endesa.

Nevertheless, Ukrainian political authorities signed a 1,1 Billion of EUR agreement for Odessa LNG terminal realization's start with a non-authorized by Endesa agent: a skying teacher who endangered the realization of the project.

The scandal touched the international reputation of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych - which is already discredited after the political processes on several leaders of the Opposition as Former PM Yulia Tymoshenko - the PM Mykola Azarov and the Minister of Coal and Energy Yuri Boyko.

Moreover, Endesa company told it aims to resign from the project. The position of the Spanish company can block the realization of project which has been presented by Ukrainian authorities as a necessary investment for Ukraine's energy and national security.
