Lombardian governor dismissed his government after a new scandal caused the arrest of an Assessor. Regional Council now to discuss on the election day.
"The game is over" Lombardy Region governor Roberto Formigoni stated on Tuesday 10/16 after his PDL right wing party councillors officially dismissed.
Governor Formigoni announced the creation of a new technical government composed by non-political people. The new government will lead Lombardy to early elections on December after an electoral law change.
In agreement with Lombardian governor, PDL councillor Paolo Valentini underlined the importance of a new popular vote after the fall of right ruling coalition with the Northern League. Valentini said that PDL is in favour of regional election in December after a new electoral law approbation.
PDL coalition's partner Northern League supported a slower transition. Northern League councillor Stefano Galli proposed an election day in spring after the approbation of the regional budget.
Main centre-left opposition party, the Lombardian Democratic Party, criticized Governor Formigoni for precedent several scandals which already involved other Assessors. Democratic Party councillor Luca Gaffuri also endorsed a new electoral law and early election as soon as possible.
Center-left wing opposition party IDV spokesman Stefano Zamponi agreed on early elections in December. He also accused Governor Formigoni of being colluded with mafia, which sold their votes to PDL former Housing Assessor Domenico Zambetti, arrested last Wednesday.
SEL left wing opposition party’s spokeswoman Chiara Cremonesi supported an electoral law reform in order to introduce a proportional system with double gender preferences.
Centrist opposition party UDC underlined the importance to organize new election in spring after the budget approval. UDC Councillor Gianmarco Quadrini stated the Regional Government dismissing it's a sad page of Lombardian history.
In the end of the session, Regional Council President Fabrizio Cecchetti - elected by the Northern League – charged the Institutional Affair Committee to establish an election law proposal before next Regional Council plenary session.
Governor Formigoni led Lombardy from 1995. Four times he has been appointed at the head of a right wing ruling coalition by a popular vote in 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010.
During last two years, several scandals lied with corruption and mafia brought out. On Wednesday the 11/10, the PDL Housing Assessor Domenico Zambetti was arrested for collusion with mafia.
