Milan to suspend a twinning with Petersburg

The left-centre coalition - except the former communist city council’s chairman and the comedian Beppe Grillo's movement member - annulled a twinning between the second Italian and Russian towns because of LGBT discrimination. The right wing opposition di not take part to the vote.

Russia is an intolerant country, between Milan and Petersburg cannot be any twinning. On Thursday 11/23, Milan's city council suspended twinning protocol, which Milan signed with Petersburg on 1967.

The second Russian town's city council has been contested after last 29 February it approved a ban of all kind of homosexuality's public demonstrations.

Radical Party's councillor Marco Cappato, the author of the request, which has been signed by all majority parties' spokesmen, sentenced Milan should react to LGBT discrimination in Russia.

Cappato's proposal has been supported by Democratic Party, left wing SEL party, centre-left IDV party, and centre-right FLI party's councillors.

The right wing PDL party did not participated to the vote, whereas the city council's chairman Basiglio Rizzo -a FDS far left wing Party's member - and the M5S movement's councillor - a populist movement lead by comedian Beppe Grillo - abstained.

Following Milan's city council vote, the twinning between Milan and Petersburg is suspended because of LGBT discrimination and lack of respect on HR.

Moreover, Milan's mayor Giuliano Pisapia, will be no more called to represent the most important Lombardian town in Petersburg during twin-towns celebrations.
