THE UK TO ENTER IN THE NORDSTREAM

British PM David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on Nordstream's prolongation to England. The UK need of gas supplies diversification and the EU higher dependence on Russia

The Olympic Games brought to London the Russian pipeline. According to the Financial Mail, UK PM David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on the Nordstream pipeline's prolongation to England in a meeting during last August's Olympic Games in London.

Nordstream is going to reach the town of Norfolk in 2016. As the Financial Mail reported, the agreement has been supported by UK PM Cameron and British energetic concern BP.

Last October, BP sold its stakes in the third Russian energetic company TNK-BP to Russian national oil major Rosneft. Nordstream's prolongation to England will allow BP to cooperate also with the other Russian national major, Gazprom.

A fostered partnership with both Russian oil and gas national majors is necessary for BP to earn enough money to pay compensations of 2010 ecologic disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Moreover, Nordstream's prolongation to England guarantees to the UK a more natural gas supplies diversification. Nowadays, London is dependent on Dutch, Norwegian and national gas supplies.

Despite of the UK position, Nordstream is a pipeline which increases EU dependence on Russian gas supplies, which actually cover the 40% of Europe's total energetic need.

The European Commission criticized Nordstream because it endangers EU States's national security. Nevertheless, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium politically supported the pipeline.

Nordstream is a Russia's political project. The 1220 kilometers length pipeline is conceived to deliver 55 bcm of Russian gas per year to Germany via the Baltic Sea seabed.

The pipeline bypasses EU countries as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, in order to divide Europe between pro-Russia Western countries and pro-European Commission Central ones.

Nordstream's shareholders are Russian national gas major Gazprom, German companies E.On and Wingas, French company Suez Gaz de France and Dutch company Gasunie.
