Milan: a garden for Anna Politkovskaya

Milan: a garden for Anna Politkoskaya

Milan's city government approved a garden's nomination to the courageous Russian journalist, killed because of her critics to Putin's Russia. Former Archbishop Carlo Maria Martini has not been chosen for the near place's nomination.

A woman who spent her life for HR rights and justice will be remembered in the most important Lombardy's town.

On Wednesday 12/6 Milan's city government decided to dedicate a new garden near Garibaldi railway station to the memory of Anna Politkoskaya.

The courageous Russian journalist of the liberal wing Novaya Gazeta newspaper has been killed in 2006 for having criticized Russian army's HR violations in Chechnya and Vladimir Putin's regime.

Milan's mayor Giuliano Pisapia appreciated Politkovskaya for the civic engagement she has demonstrated during her life.

Milan's Culture Assessor Stefano Boeri told Politkovskaya is an example of tenacity in international politics.

On February 2012, Milan's city Council unanimously backed a proposal to call mayor Pisapia for a dedication to Anna Politkovskaya of a town's public place.

In January 2009, a Tree has been planted in the memory of Anna Politkovskaya in Milan's Yad Vashem.

Both the initiatives have been promoted by AnnaViva, an association which is born to keep Anna Politkoskaya's memory.

In addition to Politkovskaya, the place near the garden has been dedicated to Milanese Architect Gae Aulenti.

Several personalities of Milan's ecclesial and laic world, and a public appeal published on Welfare Network info portal, supported the dedication of the place near Politkovskaya garden to former Milan's Archbishop Carlo Maria Martini.

Cardinal Martini, which is dead the 8/31, supported a modern vision of the religion with a Church opened to the society, tolerating the use of condoms and endorsing the admission of divorcees to the Holy Sacraments.

For his modern profile, which is typical of the Milan's Ambrosian Church, cardinal Martini is appreciated worldwide.
