LOMBARDY REGION: WELFARE COMMITTE BACKS THE BUDGET PROPOSAL

The III Committee of the Lombardian regional council approved a budget proposal by right coalition yea votes. The centre-left opposition voted against

Lombardy Region’s budget is now nearer to a definitive approval in the plenary session. On Tuesday 11/27, the Welfare committee of Lombardy’s regional council approved a budget proposal made by the regional government.

The budget approval has been possible after several non-urgent points, as workers’ contracts, rotational funds, expenses for public structures and research, has been excerpted from the original budget proposal.

The excerpt has been wanted by the Northern League, which for a while broke the majority coalition’s pact with the right wing PDL party.

PDL’s spokesman in the committee Carlo Saffioti sentenced the right wing majority found an agreement which allows to approve the budget proposal.

Northern League’s spokesman in the committee Stefano Galli told that non-urgent questions are going to be approved in a separate project of law after the budget’s approval.

Democratic Party of Lombardy’s member Andrea Girelli declared the opposition won’t vote a budget proposal which is not clear, and did not represent the different view on the Lombardian welfare system the centre-left political forces have from the right majority.

In favour of the budget’s proposal have voted PDL and Northern League’s councillor. The Democratic Party of Lombardy and the centre-left IDV party’s councillor have voted against.

The budget proposal vote by the right majority, and the excerpt of non-urgent questions in a separate proposal of law, demonstrate that the PDL and the Northern League are trying to solve a political division, in order to present a common candidate on next-early regional election.

The Northern League already announced its candidate is going to be former Ministry of Interiors in the national government Roberto Maroni.

The most conservative PDL internal stream, headed by Lombardy Region’s governor Roberto Formigoni, supported the candidature of former Milan’s major and PDL MEP Gabriele Albertini.

The centre-left coalition is going to held a primary election to nominate a candidate between the Milanese lawyer Umberto Ambrosoli, who is supported by the Democratic Party of Lombardy, left wing SEL party and the Socialist Party, journalist Andrea De Gregorio, supported by far left wing FDS alliance, and the doctor Alessandra Kustermann.
